Rebecca South is our fearless leader and the owner and founder of Rebecca's Restaurant. She opened the restaurant when she was 23 year old, and this is our ninth year of operation! Rebecca is a tireless worker who always makes herself available to her staff, friends, and family. She and her partner Will live in Riverport with their sweet border collie Pan Pan. They are currently renovating their house to become and air B&B to be done this spring. They will be moving to their sailboat for the summer in Mahone Bay!
Rebecca owns and runs multiple Air B&B vacation homes which are located on the Western Shore and in Bayport. Rebecca is an avid sailor and boater who is most happy when she is outdoors. She is available for speaking engagements on the topic of entrepreneurship, and is often consulted about how to start and run a business as a young person living in a rural area.
Head chef extraordinaire, Misty Thibeault, has lead the kitchen at Rebecca's Restuarant for almost 9 years! She is a Red Seal certified chef and has been working in the industry for almost 22 years. Prior to opening Rebecca's Restaurant, Rebecca and Misty had worked together at several establishments in Lunenburg. When Rebecca was looking for a Head chef back in 2013 she had her eye on Misty to run the kitchen by her side. Ask anyone and you will soon find out that Misty is very passionate about food and all things food-related. While satisfying the palates of the beloved sea and land lovers she pays much attention toward both vegetarian and vegan cuisine! Misty loves to go for bike rides and camping with her son, Teagan. She also loves animals, gardening, and teaching and currently teaches the STEP program in culinary arts for Parkview students. She is a one of a kind lady. Misty and Rebecca make an excellent team
General Manager & Public Relations
Rhiannon is the newest addition to Rebecca's. She is excited to be working with this team and to be among inspiring individuals. Originally from Ontario, she moved to Nova Scotia six years ago, fell in love with the South Shore and then bought a house in Mahone Bay two years later with her husband, Peter. She is an animal lover and goes on hikes with her husband and two dogs, Fable & Hopper, while exploring the Maritimes. She loves taking photographs and is excited to utilize her creative side with the combination of her retail, marketing and managerial skills in her new position at Rebecca's.
Server / Holistic Nutritionist
Since the very beginning, nine years ago at our former location down on Main Street , Jess has been one of the mainstays of our Rebecca's hospitality family. Not only a dedicated server, Jess is also very busy growing her own business as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist. Holistic Nutritionists dive deep into the roots of your health concerns and emphasize alternatives to conventional medical treatments in certain situations, which can be safer and in many cases more sustainable in the long term. Jess is going to be contributing her vast knowledge of food and nutrition to our website & restaurant.
This is Emma! She has been making our kitchen a wonderful place for four summers in a row now and we are so happy she's decided to return. Emma is a recent graduate of Forrest Heights, and plans to go into nursing in the future. While we will be sad when she decides to move on we know she will bring the same dedication, good humour and kindness to her chosen eventual profession as she currently does every day here at Rebecca's!
Always a hit with customers and a real tourism asset to Rebecca's, Mev speaks three languages- French, English and Spanish. She is originally from Val-des-Mont, Quebec and has many hobbies that are truly evidence of her awesomeness- skateboarding, dirt-biking, skurfing (water-skiing on a surfboard!) and boxing to name a few. Mev also enjoys more pensive pursuits like drawing and reading and is a certified yoga instructor. In the future she plans to build a tiny home in the area and seeks to find balance in her life, and new ways to help other people. Mev says she loves working at Rebecca's because "It just feels like home here, I like serving food that I would make myself."
Laura is originally from Halifax, but for the last ten or so years (before coming home) worked in the United States in the Florida Keys, Islamorada to be exact! Laura now hangs her hat in Chester, sharing her home with her husband and her black lab Shadow. In her spare time Laura can be found outside on her property, alongside the tractor, doing landscaping, cutting firewood and generally enjoying a Nova Scotia country life. Laura says she loves her job here at Rebecca's and plans to work here until she retires. And we are happy to hear it, because we love her!
